How to Get to the GAMMA-UT Conference

The conference's paper sessions will be held at the Doty Fine Arts Building, room 2.204. The Doty Fine Arts Building is on the east side of campus, near the intersection of 23rd and Trinity. There will be GAMMA-UT signs posted in the building directing you to the auditorium.

How to Get to the GAMMA-UT Concert

The concert will be at 8pm in the Recital Studio (MRH 2.608), in the Music Building. The Music Building is also on the east side of campus, just northeast of the Doty Fine Arts Building.

Parking for the GAMMA-UT Conference

Interactive Parking Map

There is limited street parking on campus. Visitors to UT are always encouraged to use the garages, which charge even on Saturdays. The closest UT garage to the Fine Arts campus is the San Jacinto Garage. Since the conference is on a weekend, visitors may use some surface lots for free (look for "A" and "F" spots that say something like 8-5:30 M-F, *not* the ones that say "at all times"). More surface parking spots can be found a short walk from DFA/MRH in the parking lot for the LBJ Presidential Library/Museum (lot 38). If you park there, make sure to visit the library--it has a 7/8 replica of the Oval Office as well as other cool exhibits, and it's free.

Food

Austin has an abundance of tasty food, which a quick glance at the Austin Chronicle's restaurant list will show.  Here are just a few suggestions:

El Chile Cafe y Cantina--This Tex-Mex restaurant and its sister restaurant El Chilito (taco stand) are a very short drive from UT (or a 10-15 min. walk east of the Fine Arts Campus).  Good Tex-Mex with famous roasted-jalapeno salsa, 1809 Manor Road

Vivo—yet another excellent Tex-Mex option, with fantastic margaritas, 2510 Manor Road (also within walking distance, east of Fine Arts Campus)

Crown & Anchor Pub—good burgers, fries and beer at a reasonable price, 2911 San Jacinto (short walk northwest of the Fine Arts Campus)

Sao Paulo’s—pretty good Brazilian food, although the service is often slow, 2809 San Jacinto (short walk northwest of Fine Arts Campus)

Madam Mam's--reasonably-priced Thai food at 2154 Guadalupe

Einstein Bros Bagels--2404 Guadalupe

Texadelphia--2422 Guadalupe, good, artery-clogging cheesesteak

Dobie Mall Food Court--21st and Guadalupe—mostly fast-food, including several local businesses

If you'd like something really tasty--as well as "Austin-y"--we suggest the following restaurants, which are a well-worth-it drive.

Clay Pit--1601 Guadalupe--Finest Indian fare in town, busy on weekends, located downtown not too far from UT.

Chuy's--1728 Barton Springs Rd--This tex-mex resaurant is an Austin institution, with the line outside to match. Try the deluxe tomatillo sauce, anything with Hatch Chiles, and enjoy the outrageous decor.

The Salt Lick--a 30 minute drive south to Driftwood for all-you-can-eat BBQ that makes your toes curl.

Whole Foods Market--This crazily huge downtown gourmet grocery has a great selection of foods in the cafe; you can even buy prepared foods by the pound. Great for people-watching and spending hours salivating. Free parking garage.

Central Market--Another gourmet grocery with a cafe; less crazy than Whole Foods. On N Lamar, a 10 minute drive from UT.
